DGP Manoj Kumar visits Malda after surge in violence, holds urgent law and order talks

On Friday, West Bengal's Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Kumar visited Malda to assess the district's escalating law and order situation. Upon arrival, Kumar went directly to the district police office, where he was received by senior police officials and district magistrate Nitin Singhania. This visit follows a series of violent incidents that have raised concerns among both the public and local authorities regarding safety and crime control.

In the past two weeks, Malda has witnessed multiple significant incidents of violence. On January 5, TMC councilor Babla Saha was shot and killed by assailants in broad daylight in the town of English Bazar. The murder occurred in a busy area, and despite the presence of bystanders, the perpetrators escaped the scene. In another violent incident, on January 9, clashes between two factions of the TMC broke out in the Salepur Momin Para area of Kaliaganj. The fight escalated into a shootout, resulting in the death of one TMC worker and injuries to several others. Among the injured were district TMC president Bakul Sheikh and his brother, former area head Esaruddin Sheikh.

These violent incidents have led to a heightened sense of insecurity among the public. In response, DGP Manoj Kumar's visit aims to address the rising crime wave. He is expected to hold detailed discussions with district police officers on strategies to improve law enforcement.
